Cashless Service

Torbay Harbour Authority and Beaches are transitioning to a cashless service across all offices, quaysides, and beaches. This will cover, among other things, visitor charges, launch and recovery, electric, and short-term beach hut hires.

This change will apply from Monday 14th April. Our goal is to streamline operations, improve the safety of our staff and the service efficiency.

Thank you for your understanding.

Business Rates & Your Annual Cabin or Chalet Facility

As Beach Huts are subject to an annual licence fee, they are classed as commercial and therefore liable to business rates. The annual business rate charge is calculated based on a rateable value that is set by HMRC Valuation Office Agency.

If you as the licence holder is not liable to pay occupied business rates anywhere else in England, you are able to apply for Small Business Rate Relief on the beach hut which will cover the ongoing charge in full. Further details of the scheme including how to apply can be found at Small business rate relief - Torbay Council

Movers Waitlist

If you accept a facility at one beach location and then wish to move to a different site at that location, you will be able to join the ‘movers waitlist’. For example, if you have a site at Roundham, you can only move to a different site within Roundham.

Please note you will only be offered once to move to a different site number and if you reject or do not respond to us then you will then be added to the bottom of the main waitlist.

If you accept a beach facility but wish to move to a different beach location, for example, Roundham to Young’s Park, you will be required to pay a £25 non-refundable fee to join the main waitlist for that location.
